"Yes! Let's go!"

Josie doesn't say many words yet, but she does understand a lot, and I LOVE it. This morning, though, not only did she understand what I said, she happily agreed. It was about 7:50 and she tripped or something and let out a whine that reminded me we were close to our two hour mark. "Josie, let's go take a nap." (I say 'let's' because, yes, I take one too, of course). Then I followed a few steps behind her as she led the way, on her little mission to take a nap. She went almost (short stop at an interesting corner) directly to her crib and started grabbing at her blankets.

Oh my goodness I love this kid.

We share a mutual respect for sleep. Ahhh, sleep. Sometimes, even when she doesn't act tired at all, but its naptime or bedtime, I will kiss her head, tell her sweet dreams and set her in the crib. She crawls in and snuggles up in a way that just seems like she is saying, "Finally. Thank you."

I realize it probably won't stay like this forever, but I am savoring every moment of it that I can.

a table for two

Summer has finally arrived and so after meeting up with Daddy for some boba we came back, got Josie's swim diaper on, and took a dip. Then, at dinner time, instead of sweating in the house, we moved her table outside.

And then I realized that if I was going to sit with her, shoot, I might as well eat too. Cause otherwise, I would be sitting inside the warm house eating by myself later. (Tom is working late this week).

We we set a table for two, complete with a flower and enjoyed a nice dinner together. :)

Grandma & Grampy Came for a Visit!

One of our favorite things about July is that Tom's mom and her husband Marty come for a visit. This year the weather was TERRIBLE (for July, in southern California) but we still managed to have some fun despite it...

We took a nice walk overlooking the bay and Josie explored a bit.

We went to the San Diego Zoo one day. So fun! Yup, Josie is in the same hoodie she wore this day. In July. In San Diego. Seriously. And the rest of us looked about the same.

We went to Crystal Cove State Beach and played in the sand.

And walked along a beautiful trail.

And found a really pretty over-look.

We hung out in the back yard when the sun came back from its vacation.

Josie got her own table a chairs for her birthday and loves eating snack and having tea at it. She did this a lot when we were inside wondering when the heck the sun was going to return. We also did a lot of playing on the floor with blocks and her segway cart, and her giant purple ball. Always a good time.

Thanks so much for your visit! We love you guys and had a great time!!
Miss you already!!

Uncle Phil and Aunt Mel, Part 2

Here are a couple more shots from our hike. I totally stole them from Melinda's facebook page...

I love this one.

On Saturday, we went for a bike ride (same one that Tom, Josie and I did the weekend before). It was super fun...
We stopped at the same overlook (Castaway Park).

Phil & Mel.

Here is a "group shot". Heh.

Josie explored a lot that day.

Sunday, we went to church and then hung out and Monday they left to go back to AR for immediate move to NJ. We had a blast with them. I absolutely LOVE when I get concentrated time with one of my siblings (and their spouse). Unless they come to visit, it really doesn't happen since when I visit them my time is much more divided. We had so much fun chatting about our different perspective on our childhood (a 7 year time difference), playing board games, and eating a lot of breakfast food.

Thanks so much for visiting guys!!

Today's post is brought to you by the number 2...

So....we found our recently that Josie is going to have a sibling here in a few months. We are super excited!

We had an ultrasound on Tuesday, which made it feel much more real and reassured us that things are going well. The ultrasound dated us a little (like a few days) differently than the doctor, so I don't have an official due date until I see my doc again on the 28th, but we are due most likely the first week of February.

Oh pregnancy. I am feel pretty good. SUPER tired, and nauseous every couple hours, but I can't complain too much. (although sometimes I do).

It feels weird to be pregnant for a second time. I am thinking about completely different things this time around. I'm not worried about how my body will handle pregnancy, or labor and delivery. I am more concerned about the couple months of extreme sleep deprivation after the baby comes. And missing quiet days when its just Josie and me.

But mostly I am just relishing my time with Josie as an only child and getting excited about her having a little brother or sister. As an oldest child, I can say for sure that siblings are one of life's most precious gifts.

Uncle Phil and Aunt Mel, Part 1

My brother Phil and his wife Melinda arrived Tuesday evening for a visit. Its so fun having them here! On Wednesday we went down and checked out Laguna Beach....

Josie looks a little serious here, but I assure you, she had a blast.

Yesterday we went on a really great hike that overlooks the ocean. Its about 5.5 miles, half uphill, half down. My brother was awesome enough to carry Josie on the uphill. Then she got super fussy for a while but eventually chilled out and was great most of the way down the hill on my back.

Today Phil and Mel took a car up to LA to check out all the big "must-sees" there. Josie and I decided it might be better to hang back at the house and nap and do some laundry.

Note: My brother takes really good photos so when I get some from him I'll post more pics. I am super-excited to see them (although I am convinced half of them are just of Melinda :)
